Xperia arc is the latest Sony Ericsson smartphone to have been made available for purchase in the United States via Sony's store, and is now up for sale unlocked.

The handset can be seen now on the said website with a price tag of $599.99 attached to it, but only with support for GSM networks.

This means that those who would like to purchase the unlocked device will be able to use it only on the networks of AT&T or T-Mobile.

Xperia arc was unveiled to the world in January during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, with a large display in a slim form factor, and with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS loaded on it.

“The Xperia arc’s body is sleek and strong, and inspired by Sony’s cutting-edge design. It’s slim, at just 8.7mm, lightweight and designed to sit comfortably in your hand,” Sony explains.

The smartphone comes with a large 4.2-inch touchscreen, a Reality display is powered by Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine, which can deliver sharp and vivid videos and photos.

On the back, the mobile phone sports an 8.1 megapixel photo snapper with Sony Exmor R sensor for mobile, which can record videos in HD resolution.

The handset also comes with a built-in HDMI-connector (cable included) so that users can view photos and videos on the larger screens of HD TVs, as well as with 3G and WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth capabilities, and built-in GPS receiver.

Other specs of Xperia arc include 3.5mm Audio Jack, USB Port, a 1500 mAh battery that can deliver up to 6 hours and 55 min of talk time, or standby time of up to 430 hours, and the entire set of sensors.

The handset also comes with access to various applications that can be downloaded via the Android Market, as well as with support for mobile services, including Google Maps, Search, Gmail, and YouTube, and with social networking capabilities.

“And with your favorite Facebook functions integrated into your phone, you can instantly tag photos in your gallery, 'like' a song on a playlist and share and connect with your friends easier than ever before,” Sony notes.
