More and more software updates for our smartphones are surfacing to the web, all meant to add new features, speed improvements and functionalities to the devices. One of the most popular smartphones on the market, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, has also received a firmware update, namely up to version 1.03.936.6.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 handset is reported to have surfaced on EMMA, which is the mobile phone manufacturer's service software developed for service centers to update devices. The firmware version 1.03.936.6 for XPERIA X1 comes with the R2A designation.

According to the news on the Web, the new firmware release for this smartphone is able to provide faster boot-up times for the device, while it can also deliver decreases in signal-acquisition times, yet the company hasn't unveiled an official changelog for the update at the moment. The owners of a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 who are located in the United States should seek the “X1a GENERIC NAM CDF1219-1224 KOV_R2AA008.rar” file on EMMA in order to upgrade their handsets.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 users should also take into consideration the fact that performing the update to v1.03.936.6 ROM will install the latest firmware release on their devices although some error messages are reported to appear in the process. At the same time, usual precautions like backing up all data on the handset should be taken, so that no personal files or important information on the phone is lost.

From what we've heard, the guys at XDA Developers are working on finding out what has been updated with this release, and they are reported to have mentioned Opera and WiFi connections. US users have been pointed towards the file that they should be looking for due to the fact that there are a lot of language options that might mess things up a little.
