Sony Ericsson announced today the launch of its latest handset, the T707, a device that was previously spotted around under the code-name Elle. The new T707 has been launched with tennis star and style icon Maria Sharapova, who is able to emphasize the sleek and elegant qualities the phone possesses.

The T707 is my ultimate new accessory,” said Maria. “I am always on the go and I need a phone that is easy to use, and of course chic as well! I never miss a call with the eye-catching light effects and personalised pulsation settings and I love the fact that I can just wave my hand to mute a call using the gesture control. I can also use my practical and stylish Bluetooth Headset HBH-PV715 to take my calls, check my emails and blog to my website from the phone. It’s great to have a phone that looks good but also lets me keep up-to-date with everything I need.”

Sony Ericsson has developed the new T707 to greatly interact with its owner. The handset lights up when a call is received, and users are enabled to customize the light of the phone for each of their friends, so that they would know at any moment who is calling them. At the same time, any call can be ended through a simple wave of the hand over the screen, and the same move works when one would like to snooze the alarm.

The main screen of T707 measures 2.2-inches and is able to provide users with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution, as well as with support for 262,144 colors, in addition to being scratch-resistant. The handset also sports an external 1.1-inch monochromatic OLED, scratch-resistant screen, which boasts a 128 x 36-pixel resolution. At the same time, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper has been included in the package, providing users with capabilities like 3.2x digital zoom, photo fix, video recording, photo and video blogging, as well as video light.

Beside the unique pulsating notification and light effects, the phone also comes with Day and Night changing theme capabilities, as well as with a wide range of multimedia features, including Media player, PlayNow, TrackID, FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth with A2DP capabilities, Mega Bass and Album art, or web features like NetFront Web browser, Web shortcut search key and Web and photo feeds, YouTube support or Video streaming.

The specification list of the handset also shows it as including messaging capabilities like Email, Exchange ActiveSync, Text messaging (SMS), Chat View and MMS, along with Geo tagging of photos or support for Google Maps. The new device measures 93 x 50 x 14.1 mm and weighs 95 grams, while including an internal memory of up to 100MB, as well as support for Memory Stick Micro M2 memory cards for additional storage space. The phone's battery is able to provide up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 400 hours of standby time.

The new T707 comes with support for GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS/HSDPA 2100 networks, while a T707a variant features support for GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100 frequencies. The new device is expected to become available as soon as the second quarter of the ongoing year, in color schemes that include Mysterious Black, Spring Rose and Lucid Blue.

“The T707 is the next step in the style evolution from Sony Ericsson,” said Linda Schori, Global Marketing Business Manager for Style Category, Sony Ericsson. “Maria Sharapova is the perfect partner for us as she exemplifies not only elegance but also substance, just like the T707. It works hard and is also sleek, glamorous and desirable – a truly winning combination!”
