Another naming confusion

Although many of us hoped that Sony Ericsson would officially announce its Paris slider smartphone on June 17, when the Swedish-Japanese company unveiled 5 new handsets, it seems it failed to meet our expectations because Paris is still not confirmed.

Until now, the new Sony Ericsson slider was said to come under the official name of P5 (or P5i), with Paris being only its codename, but recent rumors say that Paris will in fact be released as "Sony Ericsson P10". This is based on a new page found on Sony Ericsson's website, which should list the features the P10 handset packs. I say "should" because although the new page is made for the P10, it doesn't contain any images or specs, having only columns that are to be filled later on. The page I'm talking about can be accessed at this address.

Given the situation, we don't know for sure if Paris is indeed to turn into P10 or if the latter is in fact a new smartphone that Sony Ericsson is working on. I guess the last variant would be better, as Paris will be released anyway, sometime this year, regardless of the name it bears, while a brand new P-series smartphone can help Sony Ericsson in consolidating its leading position in the mobile world. Not that the company is having a bad time (especially with the upcoming releases of Xperia X1 and the 8.1 Megapixel C905), but new and high-featured handsets are always welcomed by consumers. Plus, if the P10 is not Paris, it could make users forget about the flaws of the first P-series device, the P1 (reviewed by Softpedia here).

Whether or not it's named P10, Sony Ericsson Paris should hit the market in September, for a retail price of about $600 (380 Euros). The handset will bring advanced features like a 5 Megapixel camera, a large touchscreen display, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G and so on, so it is definitely worth taking in consideration if you're in need of a high-end phone. All that's left now is to wait for its official presentation.
