Sony Ericsson’s Xperia arc S smartphone is available in India since last month, but the handset maker officially confirmed its availability today.

The handset can be purchased from various leading retailers across the country for around Rs 28,000 (525 USD or 400 EUR) outright.

According to the folks over at TelecomTalk, the Xperia arc S is also available at Tata Docomo carrier who is offering great prepay and postpay data packages to all customers who purchase the smartphone.

It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone comes in five color-themes, such as: Pure White, Midnight Blue, Sakura Pink, Gloss Black and Misty Silver.

Indian Android fans should know that this is the sequel of the popular Xperia arc, but the Xperia arc S was delivered with a newer mobile platform at launch.

However, Sony Ericsson updated the original Xperia arc in the meantime, so there’s really no difference between the two devices.

In this regard, the Xperia arc S comes with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and Sony Ericsson’s proprietary Timescape user interface on top. Both Xperia arc and Xperia arc S are planned for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade next year.

It has a large 4.2-inch LED-backlit LCD scratch-resistant capacitive touchscreen, which features Sony Mobile BRAVIA engine. The phone’s display boasts 480 x 854 pixels resolution and supports 16 million colors.

On the inside, the smartphone is powered by a 1.4 GHz single core processor, an Adreno 205 graphics processing unit and packs 1 GB of internal memory (320 MB user available) and 512 MB of RAM.

Obviously, the amount of storage can be expanded via microSD card slot up to 32GB. However, the phone is delivered with a free 8GB memory card in the sales package.

The main attraction of the phone is the enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper that features autofocus, LED flash, HD (720p) video recording, as well as other complex options, including 3D sweep panorama and image stabilization.

Unfortunately, the Xperia arc S does not come with a secondary front-facing camera for video calls.
