The carrier dropped plans of launching the handset

Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson reportedly confirmed that the Windows Mobile-based Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 wouldn't be launched in the UK via Vodafone. The handset, as many of you should already know, was expected to arrive on the UK market exclusively via Vodafone sometime in November, yet it has been pushed back a few months, and now Vodafone dropped the plans of bringing it to its users.

“Sony Ericsson can confirm that the X2 will not be released by Vodafone in the UK. The delivery date of the product has slipped due to extended testing and the product, which was exclusive to Vodafone in the UK, no longer fits within their planned portfolio. The handset is available in other Sony Ericsson markets however. Sony Ericsson is disappointed not to make this phone available to consumers in the UK but in 2010 the company will be offering a number of innovative, stand-out products in the market,” is what the handset vendor had to say on the matter, reports WMPoweruser.

The Xperia X2 is the second Windows Mobile-powered device the company launched as part of its Xperia series, which also includes a dumbphone, the Pureness, and an Android-based handset, the X10. The second Windows phone was announced last year as bringing to the market a similar experience with the one Xperia X1 delivered, only that it boasted a great deal of new features, an updated operating system, and other improvements.

Sony Ericsson has had a few issues with its handsets on the UK market lately, starting with a software bug that determined retailers in the country to pull its 12MP behemoth Satio from shelves, and ending with Vodafone dropping the Xperia X2. As the vendor has been through a series of difficult quarters lately, it remains to be seen how its performance will be impacted by the move, yet one should agree that things aren't looking too bright for the time being.
