Sony Ericsson C702, one of the latest handsets from the Cyber-shot series, will be the official phone for this year's edition of Transsyberia Rally, the famous off-road race that crosses more than 4,300 miles (6,920 km), from Moscow to Ulan Bator.

Since Sony Ericsson is the main partner of the Euro-Asian auto adventure, it decided to help the participant teams by offering them C702 handsets. Packing GPS, Google Maps and a 3.2 Megapixel camera with flash, auto focus and geotagging, the C702 is a perfect phone to have during a rally. Moreover, since the handset is splash and dust resistant, it's more than suited for an off-road experience.

The Transsyberia Rally starts on July the 11th, in Moscow, Russia's capital and the largest European city, and it will end in Mongolia's capital, Ulan Bator (also known as Ulaanbataar), which is situated near the Bogd Khan Uul mountains. During the rally, the 13 participant teams will report live from their C702 phones via a mobile portal specially created for this purpose. Also, the adventurous contestants will have the chance to capture different experiences and fascinating landscapes with the handset's high-end photo camera.

Those of you who want to find out more about the Transsyberia Rally can access the official website, found at this address and available in English or in German (Deutsch).

First announced in February, together with the C902 model, Sony Ericsson C702 should be commercially available starting next month (June), on most of the markets around the globe. Its price is not known yet, but it surely won't be affordable - which is understandable, considering the fact that, besides the already mentioned specs that make it a good-for-rally-phone, the handset has many other nice features, ranging from music to Web-centered ones.
