The Information Commissioner’s Office broke the news on Twitter

According to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has decided not to appeal the £250,000 ($395,775 / €297,132) fine imposed on the company back in January for the 2011 PlayStation Network breach.

“Sony CEE confirms it will not be appealing £250k penalty after serious DPA breach,” ICO representatives said on Twitter.

This comes as a surprise since, in January, Sony threatened to file an appeal against the decision, which they claimed was unjust.

“Sony Computer Entertainment Europe strongly disagrees with the ICO’s ruling and is planning an appeal,” the company said at the time.

It added, “Criminal attacks on electronic networks are a real and growing aspect of 21st century life and Sony continually works to strengthen our systems, building in multiple layers of defense and working to make our networks safe, secure and resilient.”
