The Raspberry Pi Foundation has two distributors for the small mini PC: Premier Farnell/element 14 and RS Components.

In the past, it avoided saying exactly how many of the total shipments were handled by each.

Now, though, it is implied that Premier Farnell handles the majority. An announcement made by the distributor itself says that manufacture of the Raspberry Pi has moved almost completely to Sony’s Pencoed factory in Wales.

"Now with 100 per cent being manufactured in Wales for the global market, element14 has re-enforced its commitment to the UK manufacturing sector," the distributor said.

The situation is a logical conclusion of the multi-million pound contract signed with Sony last fall.

"We are constantly amazed by the demand for the Raspberry Pi across the world and have done everything we can to ensure we keep our supply chain stocked," said Claire Doyle, global head of Raspberry Pi at element14.

"The business stated back in September its intention to bring production of the computer back to its home, the UK, and now after a period of transition we are delighted to announce that all production is in Wales."
