A matter of time

Sony has gone on the offensive. It all began with the launch of the PlayStation 3 Slim and the price cut, and continued with the outing of such exclusives as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and God of War III. Now, the battleground is motion tracking and Jack Tretton, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, has mounted an assault on the competition while talking with GameTrailers about the PlayStation Move and about the impending arrival of Killzone 3.

Talking about the rival Project Natal motion tracking peripheral Microsoft plans to have out before Christmas, Jack Tretton said that “If you really want to get involved in playing with a camera I suggest you go out and buy a $99 PlayStation 2 and play some of the great technology we invented eight years ago.”

He suggested that the technology seen in the PlayStation Move is superior and that it represents the future of gaming. Sony initially intended to put out the Move at some point during spring but decided to push it back to the fall, probably because of a lack of games that can actually use it.

Tretton also talked about the exclusive videogames Sony’s home console would be getting in the coming years. On the subject of a possible Killzone 3, he said, “We own Guerrilla Studios and they did a great job on Killzone 1 and 2. I don't know when you'll see any announcements about it but I can promise you a Killzone 3.”

Given the fact that Sony has already said SOCOM 4, developed by Zipper Interactive, is set to arrive during the fall of 2010, with Move support, Killzone 3 will probably not be out until 2011. Expect an announcement and more details coming at the E3 trade show in June.
