Sony already committed to delivering the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system to the Xperia devices that have been launched on shelves during the ongoing year, and it seems that it will not leave tablets out of this either.

Sony UK has just confirmed that the company's Tablet S and Tablet P devices are set to get a taste of the new mobile operating system from Google in the near future.

For the time being, however, no specific info on when the software update will start to arrive on devices has emerged, though Sony will announce that in due course.

“Sony Tablet is evolving, and we'd like to keep you informed with the latest updates,” the company notes in a recent post on its UK forums.

“Today we're happy to confirm that an update to Android 4.0 will be available for Sony Tablet. Details including timing will be announced in due course, so please stay tuned,” they continue.

While the announcement was targeted only at the company's users in the UK, it certainly suggests that all of the Tablet S and Tablet P devices around the world will get a taste of the new OS.

Both of these tablets have been pushed to shelves with Google's Android Honeycomb OS flavor, and they recently got a taste of the Android 3.2.1 platform release.

The latest OS version for Tablet S, namely "Sony Tablet" Android 3.2.1 Release2, was made available for them on December 21st with a variety of enhancements inside.

The release notes for the update shows:

- Wireless Controller for PlayStation(R)3 support for Sony Tablet S model - "PARTY STREAMING" support - “Video chat plugged into Skype” application is added for the Sony Tablet P model - Sony Tablet S model receives improved cradle (SGPDS1) support

Sony also made available for download the Software Development Kit for Sony Tablet P, which was aimed at enabling the building of applications for Sony Internet TV and Sony Tablet.
