Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray player is delayed once more. The unit was originally expected in June, but was twice postponed for August, then for this month, only to find itself in the strange situation of suffering a new delay, according to ElectronicHouse.

Sony's product will not be launched on October 25 launch date, which was its original announced birth date, according to a Sony spokesperson, because of a software problem inside the hardware of the unit. "This is a specific software function that resides in the hardware", said the spokesperson, stating that the delay has nothing to do with production of the Blu-ray laser diode, which has plagued production of Sony's PlayStation 3 as well as Blu-ray products from other manufacturers. The problem is "specifically related to the functionality of the unit", he added.

While an exact date was of course tenderly pushed away from the discussions, SonyStyle - a unit of Sony Corp. - has listed the unit as pushed back to on or about December 4, 2006. The number of units shipping has not been adjusted and the delay is not expected to affect Sony's holiday season plans.

Here are some details about the player: The BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc home player from Sony offers a host of new high-definition entertainment possibilities. The BDP-S1 features 1920 x 1080p output, the highest HD signal output currently available through a HDMI connection. If your HD-capable television does not have an HDMI connection, you can still get the Blu-ray experience - the 1080i analog output allows for HD-capable televisions without HDMI to enjoy Blu-ray Disc features. The BDP-S1 is also compatible with standard DVDs with the added feature of 1080p upscaling through HDMI, which gives new life to existing DVDs libraries. BD-Java interactivity will further enhance the BD entertainment experience, allowing for development of advanced interactive features.
