Today, Sony Mobile announced the upcoming availability of a new smartphone in Canada, namely the water-resistant Xperia go.

The new device is expected to become available for purchase through Fido in November in two color flavors, namely black and white, and will also be put up for sale through Sony Stores in an exclusive Yellow edition, the handset vendor announced.

The mobile phone comes with a scratch-resistant mineral glass display and is also certified with IP67 ratings for dust and water protection, thus enabling users to enjoy it even in the toughest conditions.

According to Sony, more and more users are looking for the purchase of devices that are durable, and Xperia go has been designed specifically to provide them with such capabilities.

"The Xperia go is the ideal smartphone for the everyday user looking for a device that can keep up with their lifestyle regardless of whether it rains or shines," said Peter Farmer, VP Marketing for Sony Mobile Communications.

"This phone has the highest level of dust and water resistance in its category and we feel many consumers will appreciate its durability and uncompromised performance."

Xperia go comes with a sleek and stylish design that is only 9.8mm thick, features a 3.5-inch touchscreen display and a 5-megapixel fast capture camera on the back that also comes with support for 720p HD video recording.

The phone’s specs list also includes 8GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of external storage.

Moreover, the handset comes pre-loaded with Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited apps from Sony Entertainment Network, offering access to Hollywood blockbusters, TV series and a wide range of songs.

There is also a 1 GHz dual-core processor packed inside the smartphone, while Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system comes loaded on it right from the start.
