Hardware maker and video game publisher Sony has announced that it will be putting on sales a limited edition bundle of its PlayStation 2 home gaming console packed with Toy Story 3, the title created by Disney Interactive based on the popular movie series.

The pairing between the PS2 and Toy Story 3 has a launch date in the United States of October 31 and the sales price is set at 99 dollars, which is the exact same cost of the console when someone picks it up without any attached game.

The PlayStation 2 was initially launched on the Japanese market in March 2000 and arrived in the United States in October, still selling today in both regions.

The platform has seen more than 2,000 video games released for it and more than 146 million units have been sold to gamers all over the world.

Sony has always said that the launch of the PlayStation 3, which is a more advanced device and is now making the move to 3D, does not mean that the PS2 will be discontinued.

Toy Story 3 managed to get a live after the theatrical run of the movie to which it is linked, still selling well in the United Kingdom.

The game managed to top the chart for three weeks when it was released.

The new PlayStation 2 Toy Story 3 bundle could draw a lot of customers with its low price, especially as customers are looking for bargain priced video game related gifts for Christmas.

But Sony's plan might actually be to show that the PlayStation 2 still has life left in it, demonstrating to the industry that a ten year life span for a gaming console is not impossible to achieve.

The company has long insisted that it is not working on a follow up for the PlayStation 3 and that its current flagship still has more than five years worth of life left in it.
