Sony is announcing a photography competition aimed at gamers using the PlayStation 3 who believe they have a little bit of talent when it comes to taking pictures.

Sony has laid out some pretty simple rules. All you need to do is take a picture of someone you know as they are enjoying one of the PlayStation branded products, like the PlayStation 3, the PS2 or the PlayStation Portable and then go to the weareplaystation domain in order to upload it. The site has been up since January 28 and you can see that Sony has created quite a few categories: Caught in the Moment, Unexpected Places, PlayStation Parties, True Love and Endless Play.

Initially, fans of the PlayStation brand will be rating the pictures that are up on the site. Each one can get a score ranging from 1 to 5 from each user and a “Super Vote” will be used to separate the images getting the same average. Sony is not saying how many pictures will then be presented for judges to consider. There is a panel of judges who will look at the finalists and they will decide, after March 16, who deserves to get the prizes Sony is offering.

100 gamers will be getting a PlayStation game or a voucher, which can be redeemed on the PlayStation Store, while ten runners up will be getting 100 Euros. The big winner will receive a check for 1000 Euros and a Sony D-SLR a350 camera that can be used to capture images which may or may not involve a PlayStation gaming console.

In order to take part in the competition, you have to live in Austria, Belgium, The Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Italy, Luxembourg or Portugal. For other requirements, all those interested can visit weareplaystation.
