Sony UK has recently announced that it is going to release a special edition Vaio notebook, of which only 700 units will be produced. Dubbed the Bond Z series of laptops, Sony upcoming Vaio line is going to become available in time for the release of the new James Bond movie, called “Quantum of Solace.”

The new Vaio laptop, which will try to capitalize on one of the most anticipated Hollywood releases this autumn, is going to feature a Windows Vista Business operating system and will weigh less than 1.5kg, which will place it in the same range as some of the currently available netbooks. Furthermore, when it comes to performance, this lightweight Bond-themed Vaio notebook will provide its customers with the computing power of an Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 processor, running at 2.5GHz and a decent 4GB of DDR2 memory.

Aside from that, the new small-sized Bond Z Vaio notebook is also equipped with a 320GB HDD, wireless 802.11 Draft-N and Bluetooth connectivity, and a 13.3-inch WXGA screen, just enough to make it one of Sony's most portable computer systems. “We feel it's a remarkable achievement to have succeeded in including a Blu-ray drive in a notebook of this size,” says Chris Trewhitt, Product Manager, Sony VAIO UK. “The combination of this drive, plus high-end processor and flash memory in a laptop weighing under 1.5kg makes this the most desirable machine Sony has ever created.”

Since it is obviously meant to appeal to all those James Bond movie fans out there, the new Vaio Bond Z laptop also boasts an engraved 007 logo. Add to that the advertised 5-hour battery lifetime, and we can see why this notebook stands good chances of becoming a favorite among 007 fans. In terms of pricing and availability, Sony announced that the Bond Z-series would become available for pre-order starting October 7, at selected Sony Centers. Price-wise, you are looking at a £2,999 laptop.
