Sony NX-7 might finally get its successor

The Sony A7000 has been in the rumor mill for quite some time now, but back in February a report came in saying that the camera wouldn’t be announced during the ongoing year.

But this doesn't mean you should lose all hope regarding Sony’s flagship E-mount camera with APS-C image sensor successor.

Sony A7000 could arrive in early 2015

The company’s NEX-7, which has been highly acclaimed, is still waiting for a replacement, and according to fresh information, we shouldn't have to wait that long to see it arrive.

While sitting below the NEX-7, the NEX-6 has already received a successor in the form of the A6000. As you can see, the PlayStation-maker will probably end up killing off the NEX-7. That’s why the general consensus is that the NEX-7 successor will be marketed as the Sony A7000.

Now Sony Alpha Rumors claims there is no chance the purported A7000 will make a debut on the market until 2014 comes to an end. But 2015 might be more generous to fans of Sony camera products.

As it usually happens in the first couple of months of every year, two major consumer electronics show take place at the beginning of 2015 as well, first CES (2015) in Las Vegas, then the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show. Both might be a great opportunity for Sony to unveil the much-anticipated NEX-7 successor.

Sony A7000 will bring 4K to the table

Now what should we expect from the new Sony A7000? Well, word on the street has it that the NEX-7 will take advantage of a big-megapixel sensor but will still deliver 24MP like the NEX-7 and A6000.

But one of the major highlights of the camera will be its capacity for uncompressed 4K video recording. For the time being, we’re not sure whether the device will need an external recorder to do so or not.

The mirrorrless device is said to have a rangefinder-like design and comes with weather-sealed properties, which is good news for those planning to go a little rough with the camera.

Apparently, the camera’s max shutter speed will be 1/8000th of a second. Moreover, it will offer tethering support.

On top of the A7000, Sony is also expected to roll out a bunch of lenses in 2015. First off, the 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSSS will get a replacement but not a weather-sealed one.

Secondly, Carl Zeiss is said to be prepping a new 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS lens that, unlike the model mentioned above, will be weather sealed.

As always, we advise you to take this information with a big grain of salt because these rumors have a tendency to switch direction when you least expect it.
