The Sony A3000 camera has been on the market for less than a year, but it appears the device manufacturer is already gearing up to roll out a successor for the device.

The new apparatus will apparently be called the A3500 and Sony Alpha Rumors has apparently managed to stumble upon the first pics showcasing it, plus the complete list of specifications.

Of course, the information should be taken with a grain of salt, as nothing has been made official or confirmed yet, so the specs we’re going to be telling you about might change when the camera actually launches into the wild.

So what should photographers look forward to with this new model? Well, for example, the APS-C “Exmor” APS HD CMOR sensor with 20.1MP. Also note, the lenses are interchangeable, so photo enthusiasts will be able to swap them around if they need to. The camera is also said to have an ISO range of 100 up to 16,000 and boast a shooting speed of around 2.5fps.

Other features include Tracking Focus, Focus lock, Built-in AF Illuminator (distance: approx. 0.5-3.0m (with E 18-50mm F4-5.6 lens attached)).

Furthermore, there’s a 3-inch LCD display, capable of recording video at 1080p Full HD. Compared to its predecessor, the differences to be found in the new model include the new 18-50mm f/4.0-5.6 Sony lens and better battery life (amounting to approx.. 470 images (Viewfinder), approx. 480 images (LCD screen) (CIPA standard).

As a refresh, when the Sony A3000 was put to the test by DxO Labs, it managed to achieve a pretty impressive overall score, putting it alongside models like the Sony NEX-5T, Alpha 77 or NEX-6 in terms of overall image quality.

Side by side with rival mirrorless models like Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-G6, the A3000 scored better at every parameter including color depth, dynamic range and ISO performance.

The Sony A3000 sold with a pretty attractive price tag of $350 / €256, which made it a very tempting offer for those on the market for an entry-level mirrorless camera. However, its rumored successor will up things a notch in the pricing department.

An interesting detail we have to draw attention to is that, despite the fact that Sony hasn't made the camera official just yet, the device is already up for pre-order on Sony’s official Australian layer, with a price tag of $453 / €328.

We have seen this happen before, most recently with the Samsung Chromebook 2, which appeared listed in retail, before the Korean tech giant could make an official announcement.
