Sonnet Technologies has announced that its back-of-monitor mounting system now supports Apple’s latest Mac mini. The company advertises the system saying that it makes the computer disappear, although few may be inclined to hide away this particular Macinotsh.

The MacCuff mini acts as a practical way to mount a mini computer, such as Apple’s Mac mini, to the back of an LCD display.

Should the user decide to mount the system elsewhere, such as under a desk, or a table, it works pretty much the same.

It retains full access to the power switch, the SD card and optical disc slots, and all of the computer’s ports, the company claims.

“In spite of its small size, the Mac mini can be inconvenient to place,” Sonnet Technologies believes.

“On a small desk, the Mac mini takes up valuable space, a problem compounded by cable clutter,” the company begins to dish out its opinions.

“MacCuff mini moves a Mac mini off the desktop and behind the monitor or to under a desktop,” it explains on its web site.

In a manner typical to any hardware vendor, key features of the product are then listed.

Now, for the interesting part (Softpedia note)

“Many LCD monitors have open VESA mounting holes on the back that provide an ideal spot to attach a MacCuff mini,” acknowledges Sonnet Technologies.

“Mounted securely to the back of a display, a Mac mini disappears,” says the Irvine, California-based technology company.

At least in this editor’s opinion, not even the old Mac mini is something you’d want to hide away, let alone the gorgeous new version, which features an all-new, 1.4-inch-thin aluminum enclosure.

The material Apple used for its new mini is actually the same kind used by the aerospace industry to build mission-critical spacecraft components, the Mac maker said.

“This ensures absolute precision of every component of the Mac mini enclosure. Not to mention a stunning aluminum fit and finish that will make any desk proud,” Apple boasts on its web site.

The computer’s makers also say the new mini is “amazing from any angle.”

If but one Mac had been designed with looks in mind, the new mini would have to be it.

Admittedly, the MacCuff does help in cutting the cable clutter.

The mounting system ships with a 13-inch HDMI to DVI-D monitor cable that connects the Mac mini to the monitor.

According to its makers, it the cable will never touch the desk. It should also ensure there are no accidental disconnects, the company notes.

Finally, the MacCuff mini has been designed so that it leaves the computer’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas uncovered, therefore not affecting normal operation.

On this, however, customers must take Sonnet’s word for it.

The new MacCuff mini is scheduled to go on sale the week of September 6, 2010. It will retail for USD $59.95.
