Holds two 2.5-inch HDDs side by side in one of several RAID modes

Having two or more storage drives be handled as a single one, for several benefits, is something that Sonnet decided to make easier with its new Fusion F2QR RAID device.

RAID is a special mode that two or more hard disk drives can be configured in, for better speed and/or security.

Motherboards nowadays can usually set up drives in such a configuration just fine, but that still leaves room for more convenient inventions, especially ones easy to add or remove at any time.

Sonnet Technologies decided to design a RAID device, which houses two hard drive units and can operate in RAID 0 (fast), RAID 1 (safe), concatenated (span) and JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) configurations.

The carrying case links to a host system via eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 800, FireWire 400 or USB 2.0.

That said, in RAID 0 (fast) mode, and when linked through eSATA, the RAID device communicates at a data rate of up to 160 MB/s when reading and 100 MB/s when writing.

For those who want to know more technical details, the dual-drive product has an aluminum enclosure and is RoHS compliant. Also, the two 2.5-inch HDDs inside have a capacity of 1 TB each.

Furthermore, the Sonnet Fusion F2QR, as it is called, measures 15 x 15.6 x 2.4 cm, weighs 680 grams and is intended for professional users instead of the average consumer.

Of course, the price of $569 (419.58 Euro) probably isn't something most consumers would be willing to pay anyway, especially since they can just have their motherboard configure its own setup.

Notebook owners might consider the idea of this storage product, but today's laptops don't really have storage deficits.

Nonetheless, whoever actually wants to get one or more of these things needs just drop by this page. A two-year warranty is included in the offer.
