While nobody can deny the fact that Sony's and SanDisk's co-developed SxS standard is able to achieve impressive transfer speeds such solutions are usually extremely expensive, so Sonnet developed a special adapter that enables the use of SDHC memory cards in place of SxS thus providing fast and ample storage while keeping costs down.

Developed in order to be used in professional camcorders such as Sony's XDCAM series, the SxS memory card standard can reach transfer rates of up to 800 Mbit/s while its burst speed can go as high as 2.5 Gbit/s.

Although impressive, these high transfer rates are accompanied by even higher prices, a 800Mbps capable 32GB SxS card being listed at about $800 US, a whopping price compared to the $150 that one has to take out of its pocket in order to buy a 32GB Class 10 SDHC memory card.

In order to take advantage of the lower prices that usually accompany even high-performing SDHC memory cards, Sonnet has developed the SDHC Adapter for SxS Camera Slot that is designed specifically for Sony XDCAM camcorders and enables users to go with Class 10 and faster SDHC in place of SxS memory cards.

And since it comes in the same size as a SxS memory card this is interchangable other such devices while also ensuring the camcorder's memory card slot door closes completely with the adapter inserted.

Furthermore, since SxS cards share the same form factor and interface as ExpressCard/34 adapters, the Sonnet adapter can be inserted directly into a notebook computer’s ExpressCard slot, providing faster transfer speeds than regular SDHC memory card readers that usually relay on the USB 2.0 standard.

As far as pricing is concerned, the SDHC Adapter for SxS Camera Slot is available for $49.95, so this comes as an interesting alternative to SxS memory cards.
