Strange or not, the huge hype surrounding Sony's latest Sonic game and the leaked gameplay footage/screenshots/infos last month quickly faded and people forgot it. With the clear intention to bring back some of that excitement, Sonic Unleashed's developers have decided to come with a short factsheet and a few extra details regarding the game. Exciting or not - it's up to you to decide.

First, as expected and seen in previous media, Sonic Unleashed will feature so-called 2.5D graphics (which means a mix between 3D and 2D, obviously). The most important change to be brought by the game is the fact that day and night will now play drastic roles in the story, since Sonic will have... multiple-personality problems, let's say. The rest is already known: Dr. Eggman has a plan to destroy the world, Sonic will stop him and everybody will be happy, expecting another sequel.

We have four key features for the product expected to be released just in time for this holiday season: first - a new Hedgehog Engine, but still one unable to offer full 3D visuals; second, the gameplay will be "unleashed": new abilities and powers have been added to the classic 2D gameplay and the Sonic Team are really sure they have managed to do a great job this time. Let's hope they are right!

A fact we should welcome is the introduction of alternate pathways, adding both to the replay value of the game, as well as the fun factor, since each route has its own encounters and rewards. And, finally, the fact that matters most to our blue character: Speed. We'll get the option to use the Quick Step in order to instantly avoid obstacles (without loosing speed) and use Sonic Boosts as well as Speed Drifts just to... finish the game faster, probably.
