Entomologists propose that each of these insects has its own personality

Here's something that I couldn't believe when I first read it: each honeybee you see leaving a hive may have its own personality. University of Illinois entomologists are convinced that this is the case.

They say that some of the bees are more willing to learn and experience new things than others. In support of their claims, they bring data covering neural activation patterns in various bees. The team identified certain differences that they say underline some bees' adventurous behavior.

“In humans, differences in novelty-seeking are a component of personality. Could insects also have personalities?” UI Institute for Genomic Biology entomology professor and director, Gene Robinson, explains, as quoted by Wired.

The finding is bound to cause some controversies in the international scientific community, and many scientists will undoubtedly want to replicate these results. Keep an eye on this space for more on this issue.
