Ubisoft has talked a bit more about Assassin's Creed Unity and how, while many missions can be done alongside up to three of your friends via the new cooperative mode, some will be single-player only because of their content.

Assassin's Creed Unity introduces a lot of new elements to the old action adventure series, with the story focusing on new protagonist Arno Dorian while taking place during the French Revolution.

Besides plot elements, the game also features a brand new cooperative mode that's baked right into the experience, so that players can explore the city of Paris with their friends and even engage in many of the missions offered by the actual story campaign.

According to Ubisoft's Mission Director, Bruno St-Andre, the decision to focus on co-op was made right from the beginning so that all the mechanics and features didn't interfere with the new experience.

"Early on we decided it'd be the shared experience. Every development part of Unity was made to favor the cooperation between players, to favor the systems of working together in cooperation and combination of players, different types of player, who have different types of skills and want to exploit them more within the progression system also," he told GRTV.

However, while most of the missions and the open world exploration can be done in the cooperative mode, there will be some quests that can only be done alone, without the help of your friends, according to the designer.

"Every mission is about the story of Arno. Some are Brotherhood missions you can take on with your friends, and some are limited to Arno. But the entirety of the game, playing Paris, exploring, collecting stuff, you can do it with your friends four player. Just that some missions are for single player, some are for one to four."

In order to make sure that the game offers a challenge when playing cooperatively, St-Andre also revealed that the combat system has been refined, while the AI is much more aggressive this time around.

"For [combat], we give you more control on the fight moves, and left space for tactical choices when playing co-op and against the enemy. They're going to strategize better against you, be more coordinated in strikes."

Assassin's Creed Unity is set to debut this October for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. You can expect to learn much more ahead of the game's release and at upcoming events like Gamescom 2014.
