No official statement, but the same day in April keeps popping up

Rockstar have never given an official, specific release date for their highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV, but it seems that the release date is known since one particular day in April keeps popping up. It was December last year when the first rumors about the 25th of April 2008 (yes, that's the date!) started to surface on the Internet and since then different voices claimed that this is the real one. And this could be one of those few rumors that turns out to be true.

A North American stock-trading website, Tradingmarkets, says that GTA IV will be released this April, while Spong claims that a third-party (yet unnamed) source has contacted them to confirm Friday, the 25th of April as the exact date. And this would make sense since everybody will have the weekend to hide in a dark room and play the game two days straight. Also, the exact same date is the last day in Take Two's fiscal year. Even though we wouldn't bet on this one, it seems that we have the correct answer, so don't plan anything around that date. Grand Theft Auto IV is coming!

Here is what the stock-trading website says: "Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. (TTWO) and the video game industry seem to have survived the holiday season relatively unscathed. The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV is scheduled to reach retailers in April and will certainly give them a boost in 2008. However, the company is no longer dependent solely on the success of its key franchises such as Grand Theft Auto. In 2007, 27% of revenues came from the top ten games versus 50% in 2005."

Rockstar spokespersons used to say about this particular release date that it is a "rumor and speculation" so probably the same goes with this one, too, even though no official statement regarding this matter has been made. Maybe the folks over there are still a little busy with bullying their way to the school grounds with their announced Xbox and Wii port of "Bully".
