New Mac freeware

Welcome to a new edition of Softpedia's Mac freeware picks. Luckily, this week has been more productive, so I'm able to present you with the usual number of free Mac apps that may prove highly useful for day-to-day activities.

Dock Spaces – use as many as ten different Docks, all integrated with Leopard's Spaces features

Dock Spaces de-clutters your view, by allowing you to swap through ten (essentially) different Docks. By permitting you to select whether or not icons bounce in one Dock, or by setting another to automatically hide itself while the rest are in Tiger-style 2D, with different alignment and positioning, you can tailor your Mac's application launcher to your exact needs. It also works side-by-side with OS X Leopard's own Spaces feature! Tons of other options are to be found in the app's preferences.

Dock Spaces can equip you with as many as ten different Docks, each customizable to your liking. Whether you want 3D or 2D Docks, one with 20 icons, with another holding just a web browser and an IM app, Dock Spaces will assist you. Those using Leopard's Spaces feature will make even better use of the software.

While there are multiple applications that allow Mac users to modify the looks and the works of their Dock, none offers the many advantages of Dock Spaces, from a functionality point of view. Best of all, this utility app is completely free to download and use for as long as one wants.

Glide

unified file- and information-management system for all of your devices

Developed by TransMedia, Glide is a tool for automatic synchronization of all of your files and information. Installing Glide Desktop Applications on multiple desktops lets you easily upload your photos, music, video, documents, contacts, calendars and bookmarks.

Glide will automatically sync files you create and edit online in Glide and on your local desktops, keeping all of your files in sync all of the time, and also makes it possible to access all of them from a mobile device. You can create and edit files in Glide on your mobile device, and automatically sync them to your Mac or PC. As far as the latter is concerned, Windows users can import contacts and calendars from Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express and the Windows Address book, as well as bookmarks from Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox.

On the Mac side, you can import contacts from the Mac Address Book and events from iCal calendars, as well as bookmarks from Safari, Camino and Firefox. Versions for other operating systems, such as Linux and Solaris, allow users to import contacts from Thunderbird LDIF files, Sunbird iCalendar files and Firefox bookmarks.

Glide is free with an account limited to 10GB of free storage. More storage means you have to pay for your subscription and use of the service. Requirements include the respective Glide account, 256 MB RAM (higher recommended), 25 MB disk space, and a screen capable of a 1024x768 resolution (or better).
