On December 28th, François Dupoux announced the immediate availability of the SystemRescueCd 1.3.4 operating system. The new release is powered by Linux kernel 2.6.31.9, with an updated Btrfs filesystem from Linux kernel 2.6.32 and Xorg Server 1.6.5. The AIDA software was replaced by HDT, and a few other useful scripts were added and various applications updated.
Highlights of SystemRescueCd 1.3.4:
· Updated the standard Linux kernel packages to version 2.6.31.9 (with an updated Btrfs filesystem, from Linux kernel 2.6.32); · Updated the alternative Linux kernel packages to version 2.6.27.41; · Updated the Xorg Server to version 1.6.5; · Updated NTFS-3G to version 2009.11.14; · Updated gDisk to version 0.5.1; · Updated FSArchiver to version 0.6.2; · Added FSArchiver 0.6.3 Beta 10; · Added the scsiadd script to allow adding and removing SCSI devices; · Added the suspend-usb-device script to allow a safe disconnect operation of USB drives; · Made memtest+ 4.00 to boot as a kernel, in order to fix various issues; · AIDA was replaced by HDT (Hardware Detection Tool) 0.3.6.

On December 29th, Hacktolive.org announced Super OS 9.10 (formerly known as Super Ubuntu), a Linux distribution that includes patches, tools and technologies that are missing from a standard Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) default installation.

On December 30th, Rain Forest Wind presented a hacked version of the popular Ubuntu distribution, one that looks just like the ever-popular Windows XP operating system from Microsoft. Not only that Ylmf OS comes with a GTK theme tuned to be like the Windows XP desktop, but the icons are also identical, and the Wine software is present to allow the users to employ Windows applications. Above all that, there are also a lot of "under the hood" enhancements and many of those useful programs and tools that are not available in Ubuntu. Have a look below at some of the most important features added in Ylmf OS, compared with an original Ubuntu Linux distribution.

On December 31st, Stefan Lippers-Hollmann announced sidux 2009-04 (Moros), which ships with Linux kernel 2.6.32.2, KDE Software Compilation 4.3.4, and 3D support for ATI Radeon graphics cards. sidux is a full-featured Live CD based on Debian Sid, with a special focus on hard disk installations, a clean upgrade path within Sid and supplementary hardware and software support.
