dots Fedora On January 25th, Phil Knirsch announced a last evening, January 25th, the immediate availability for download of the Fedora 14 for IBM System z (s390x) 64-bit systems.

Fedora 14, codenamed Laughlin, comes with a lot of new features and updated packages. The last release of Fedora for IBM System z was Fedora 6, announced on October 24th, 2006. Therefore, the Fedora IBM System z (s390x) Secondary Arch team is proud to announce a new and improved release of this operating system.

dots On January 31st, Mandriva announced the release of Mandriva 2011 Technology Preview, because the developers are having a harder time than they anticipated with some of the components and changes planned for the upcoming release, so the schedule has now been pushed back by two weeks. Mandriva 2011 Technology Preview already includes some of the big changes and new components planned for the first alpha and even for the final, stable release, but is also missing quite a few pieces, not to mention that plenty of bugs should be expected.

· On January 25th, the Document Foundation company launched the final and the first stable release of the LibreOffice open source office suite for Linux, Windows and Macintosh platforms. · On January 25th, the Ubuntu Project has announced a new exhibition, at London’s Design Museum, which is dedicated to the Ubuntu Font, with the collaboration of its creators, Dalton Maag. The exibition, entitled "Shape my language", will run from 28th January to 28th February 2011 and its main function is to show the advance in design that The Ubuntu Project has made in the last years. · Novell has announced on January 25th, that it has added another partner to the already large list of big names in its SUSE Appliance Program. Dell is now part of the program and the hardware manufacturer will now offer solutions for businesses based on tools like SUSE Studio, powered by Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise. · KDE SC 4.6.0 was announced by the KDE developers on January 26th. The latest release of the popular software compilation brings plenty of updates and new feature across all of its main components. The KDE Plasma Workspaces come with a new Activities system, which should make it easier to manage different tasks, several KDE applications come with new features, including Dolphin, and the KDE Platform has some new capabilities as well.
