On September 13th, the development team behind the SMS project announced the immediate availability of Superb Mini Server 1.5.3. The new release brings a number of updates and changes. SMS 1.5.3 is now on par with the current Slackware, on which it's based, so many of the packages have been updated.

On September 14th, Stefan Lippers-Hollmann proudly announced the new aptosid 2010-02 operating system, previously known as sidux. Dubbed Keres, aptosid continues where sidux left off and users can seamlessly upgrade from one to the other.
aptosid 2010-02 comes with either the KDE desktop environment, by default, or, alternatively, with XFCE, both in either 32-bit or 64-bit flavors. Thanks to its Debian base, the hardware requirements are rather low and aptosid supports a decent number of platforms.
New in aptosid 2010-02 is the latest Linux kernel 2.6.35.4 and KDE SC 4.4.5. Unfortunately, KDE 4.5 hasn't made it yet, despite being out a few weeks, but will probably be offered as an upgrade soon.

On September 14th, Jörn Lindau proudly announced the immediate availability of the Toorox 09.2010 operating system, now powered by the Linux Kernel 2.6.34-gentoo-r3 and the Xorg Server 1.8.2.
The good news is that Toorox 09.2010 now contains a GNOME version also, and this release announcement is all about it. The following applications were updated: IceCat 3.6.8, OpenOffice.org 3.2.1, Mozilla Thunderbird 3.1.1, The GIMP 2.6.10, Wine 1.3.1, Exaile 0.3.2.0, Compiz 0.8.6, Code::Blocks 10.05, Audacious 2.4.0, Ardour 2.8.7.

On September 18th, Rubén Rodríguez has announced the release Trisquel 4.0 LTS, an Ubuntu-based derivative which uses only free software. The major goal of Trisquel is to have a pure, 100 percent free distro based on the popular Ubuntu. Trisquel 4.0 LTS, as the name implies is a long term support release, since it's based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

· The team behind the popular Deluge open source BitTorrent project, has announced on September 13th the immediate availability for download of the highly-anticipated Deluge 1.3.0 release, after many months of hard work to bring you the latest features into a powerful torrent downloader software. · On September 14th, Canonical released last evening the final wallpaper for the upcoming Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) operating system. Apparently the default wallpaper introduces on August 27th, was not good enough for the final release of Ubuntu 10.10, and for most of the Ubuntu users. Therefore, Canonical replaced that ugly wallpaper with a new one. Read more about it here.
· Linus Torvalds, Linux's architect and leading figure, has finally become an US citizen after spending more than a decade living there. The Finish-born programmer is responsible for creating Linux and sparking the open-source revolution, achieving a somewhat legendary status in the process. Read more about it here.
· Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced on September 15th yet another improved version of its ATI Catalyst Linux display driver, available for both x86 and x86_64 architectures. ATI Catalyst 10.9 brings early look support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6. Read more about it here.
· On September 15th, Adobe has finally announced that the 64-bit version of the Adobe Flash Player is again available for download. Not only that, but the new release is significantly improved over previous releases. Read more about it here.
· Novell, the company behind the popular SUSE Enterprise Linux distro, hasn't been having a great run lately. The latest rumor is that the company is trying to sell off its Linux business, one of the most serious bidders being VMware. Read more about it here.
· The GNOME 2.32 Release Candidate (RC) has been released on September 19th, several days after the deadline. A number of failures affected the build and took several days to resolve, pushing the release date. Read more about it here.
