Apart from being a gifted film director, Sofia Coppola is also a creative  fashion designer, and she will prove it soon enough. Early this year, the Luis Vuitton team announced a new partnership with the talented artist; consequently, the resulting collection consists of elegant clutches, lightweight handbags, and classic shoes.

The new line was presented to the public for the first time ever last week in Tokyo, at Château Restaurant Joël Robuchon. Still, trend followers worldwide will have to wait until spring 2009 to be able to purchase the desired items, labeled SC, which is when the collection will officially go on sale.

The fact that Sofia also works as a designer, besides being a successful movie director, shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, especially if we’re to consider the job she took at Chanel, as an intern, after leaving college. Nevertheless, she confesses that her efforts have been especially driven by the need of finding "the perfect bag that doesn't exist." That's not such an easy accomplishment, and certainly not so when we also consider the fact that almost all trendy handbags are nowadays pretty bulky and heavy.

Among many other models, Sofia came up with a daytime medium-sized bag, made of calf leather, and easy to be paired with different gowns or shoes, and a sophisticated clutch, for fancy evening events. The latter is even provided with a tiny mirror, extremely useful to check one’s makeup without being too obvious. The bags are accompanied by matching ankle-strap sandals, inspired by the Yves Saint Laurent sandals that Sofia's mother herself wore many years ago.

It seems like the SC collection for Luis Vuitton is the right mixture of the freshness of a young vision and golden classicism. Sofia's approach to fashion tendencies might be just the necessary ingredient to bring a new breath of life to 2009 bags and shoes collections, as innovative as the director's latest movie.
