Unique design from inside-out

Hardware makers always do try to reach a measure of aesthetic value when making their systems and peripherals, but the problem they are usually faced with is the lack of ideas to work with. In the case of speakers, those that aren't built directly into a device that is, not much can usually be accomplished. Most often they are just beautified boxes that are, in the end, still just a pair or number of boxes made of plastic, wood or other type of material. Fortunately, hardware designers exist, and Sylvain actually came up with something interesting in terms of aesthetically-pleasing audio.

They are called the Snowflake speakers and, as consumers can gather, have the shape of snowflakes. By virtue of their form alone, they are guaranteed to draw the eyes of many an end-user, especially those with unique tastes for internal decorations.

Furthermore, their build tries to put all the audio parts at the bottom, leaving the radial shape free to give out its differently colored lights. The arms of the snowflake come with intricate membranes with a “eerie glow”.

The integrated flat membrane audio equipment is what allows the actual hardware to be crammed at the bottom, exactly where such things as iPhone or iPod touch can be plugged. All in all, Silvain managed to show what a high-tech snowflake would look like. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing when, if ever, the concept will actually become a selling product.

“By roughly tracing the structure of everyone’s favorite surprise during winter, designer Sylvain Gerber created the Snowflake Speaker. He’s created something that visually contours the idea of clean sound – as pure as snow. There are no fancy covers or meshing. The speaker is stripped bare revealing all the intricate membranes highlighted by an eery glow. Technically the design is simple to execute by integrating the latest in flat membrane audio technology hiding all the electronics in the bottom of the speaker.”
