Useful tool for checking OS X 10.6 program compatibility

Revealed earlier this week, the Wiki-based “Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Compatibility List” has become a useful tool for Mac OS X fans. Those who are planning on upgrading to the new cat have some well-justified concerns on their hands, particularly because of unsupported pieces of software.

Luckily, there’s a Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Compatibility List right here to help you see which apps work, don’t work, or have some glitches in Snow Leopard. The list gets updated constantly, while useful notes provided by users like you and me inform others of the experience with the respective application.

“Below is a list of applications and their compatibilty [sic.] status with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, the most recent operating system from Apple,” the introduction on snowleopard.wikidot.com reads. “Please collaborate by sharing your experiences using each application and by adding applications not already listed. Simply click EDIT at the bottom of the page to contribute,” the message says.

Since we reported the existence of the tool two days ago, the page has been updated with dozens of new applications, as well as small, colorful icons next to their category, making it easier to see which apps are compatible, non-compatible, or have issues on Mac OS X 10.6.

Also, there are now three categories (instead of the previous four), for apps that work fine, apps that don’t work at all on Snow Leopard, and for apps that have issues. The untested category is gone, since it wasn’t of very much use to anyone. Softpedia, for its part, compiled a short list of some noteworthy apps in its previous article, complete with notes.

When you get the chance, drop us a line and tell us how many of your Leopard / Tiger apps stopped working on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
