Recent studies have revealed that all the persons that usually snore while resting, as well as the ones suffering from snore-related disorders - such as the sleep apnoea, when patients, while snoring, actually have moments when they stop breathing – are efficient in burning calories, as if they would do some workout in the gym. The phenomenon is considered to be related to the intense activity taking place in their nervous system.

Scientists from the University of California, San Francisco, lead by Eric J. Kezirian, studied the cases of 212 people who were snoring while resting, or who had sleep problems related to snoring. They finally concluded that those who presented a more severe form of heavy breathing during sleep were also the ones who let off Steam in physical workout, and who were actually burning around 2000 calories in just one “sleeping session.” 1,626 is the actual number of calories consumed by the people snoring neither too often, nor very hard.

Despite the fact that breathing heavily with snorting noises should actually make them slim, due to the intense energy expenditure, the people suffering from this particular disorder are prone to other types of health problems. Some of the things that could affect their daytime life could be related to fatigue, and also to all the other changes that make them less resistant to many sorts of physical activities.

Dr Kezirian is decided to carry on his studies, as “Future research considering the effect of sleep-disordered breathing on body weight can include the effects on energy intake and expenditure.”

Past researches have testified that snoring disorders may appear, additionally, as a result of other health-related major issues – the phenomenon occurs much more often among the overweight mature males, who are also smokers. People who have been suffering from respiratory infections before turning two are also at great risk of developing this affection.
