The only thing keeping Snoop Dogg from performing in Australia was a local work permit, which was at last issued to him. Controversy about the rapper entering the country was raised by Australian women's rights activists.

Snoop Dogg will be performing as one of the headlining acts at the Big Day Out festival which tours the country to play in several locations.

The first gig is on January 19 on the Gold Coast and organizers were already scrambling to get the US rapper on stage, after British act Blur already pulled out of the show.

This is not good news for the Collective Shout group, a women's rights organization that filed a petition to ban the rapper from entering the country.

They said that “Snoop Dogg's lyrics glorify violence against women,” and blasts the organizers and immigration minister Scott Morrison for not being able to support their message.

For Snoop, this is the first time he has trouble entering a country to play at a venue. In 2007, he was refused entry in the United Kingdom and had to cancel out on the British leg of his tour.
