Summer is upon us and this means that, for a while, big game launches are but a distant thought and most players will be happy to try out smaller indie titles or to turn to their backlog in order to play the big games of the spring that they might have overlooked.

For the United Kingdom video game sales chart, this means that one AAA experience has a chance to stay in the number one position for several weeks, virtually unchallenged by other releases until the middle of August.

For the week that ends on July 5, the UKIE reports that Sniper Elite 3, the first-person sniper-focused shooter from Rebellion, has managed to stay at number one, even if most reviews have shown some serious issues with the experience.

The game allows players to take out targets from long range with high-powered weaponry, and the developers have created some very gruesome and careful simulation of how a bullet affected a human body during World War II.

The title takes place in North Africa, and Rebellion says that it plans to deliver downloadable content for it in the coming months.

Second place in the United Kingdom game chart is occupied once again by Watch Dogs, the open-world experience from Ubisoft, which allows gamers to become Aiden Pearce, a capable hacker and fighter who needs to explore a futuristic version of Chicago in order to revenge the death of someone close to him.

The last place on the podium belongs to FIFA 14, the football simulation from EA Sports which is benefiting from the excitement created by the Brazil-based World Cup, which is at the moment entering the semifinal stage.

Gamers can enjoy content based on it in both the Kick-Off and the Ultimate Team modes.

Titanfall remains rooted to fourth place, showing the new Respawn Entertainment-made title continues to be popular after the launch of the new Marked for Death mode and the patch that’s designed to improve the overall balance.

Wolfenstein: The New Order, the shooter from Machine Games and Bethesda, is in fifth place, just one position ahead of Call of Duty: Ghosts, from Infinity Ward and Activision.

EA Sports has a grip on the following two places, with the UFC title it launched in the middle of June, which delivers a very accurate simulation of the combat-focused sport but is also a bit too complex for most players, and with the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil title, which is only offered on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Minecraft for the PlayStation 3 is in ninth place, and the Xbox 360 version of the indie hit closes down the UK chart.
