Inventive Metals, a subsidiary of Global Contract Manufacturing, Inc. (a metal fabrication company based in Union City, California) has announced a line of iPhone cases constructed from tough, aerospace‐grade aluminum.

Available in six different powder-coated finishes “with styles ranging from elegant to wild”, the durable cases are designed not only to protect iPhone 4 and iPhone 3G/GS handsets, but also to add a touch of style.

They’re not half bad but, if you ask us, they are quite bulky.

Inventive Metals promises that the iPhone is completely functional when inside the case, and that includes a strong signal reception.

Access to the screen, buttons, speaker, microphone, and headphone jack is unobstructed, according to the manufacturers.

"Aluminum cases provide the iPhone with a great deal of drop protection; however, enclosing a phone in metal is a challenging endeavor," said Inventive Metals' product manager Ron Benditt.

"Most of our competitors who have tried this really haven't put enough engineering into the signal-loss problem,” Benditt added.

“We've studied this extensively and have tested and refined many prototypes before we were satisfied that our cases would out-perform our competitors and provide a good user-experience to our customers. Our iPhone cases are unmatched in terms of durability and signal strength."

The new iPhone Aluminum Cases Inventive by Inventive Metal are available for purchase online at this address.

The cases go for $69 each and come in 6 distinctive colors - Black Chrome, Silver Vein, Rust, Gold Rush, Wilder Red, and Neon Pink.

According to the sellers, assembly is idiot proof. The iPhone simply gets clamped between a front and rear cover half with four recessed screws. A Torx wrench is included. If you don’t know what goes where, don’t be alarmed - the hardware ships with assembly instructions.
