The snakes are non-venomous, yet still give people the creeps

Since April 8, a total of five brown DeKay's snakes have showed up in a courthouse in Mississippi. All of these reptiles were found by courthouse employees snooping around the basement, where court files are currently being kept.

The chances that these snakes were hired by someone to have a sneak peek at these files are pretty much slim to none, so courthouse employees will just have to settle for the explanation wildlife experts have already provided them with.

The snakes are merely coming out of hibernation and are desperate to find something to eat.

Hence their slithering around aimlessly and showing up in the basement of this courthouse in downtown Jackson, Mississippi.

According to The Inquisitr, the DeKay's snakes now creeping out the people working at said courthouse are completely harmless.

Thus, not only are they non-venomous, but their teeth are not even strong enough for them to be able to pierce human skin.

In fact, the only things that they might be interested (and able, for that matter) to sink their teeth in are lizards, crickets, worms, and other such small creatures.

The same source informs us that, although wildlife experts say that the situation is well under control, there have been a couple of casualties since the snakes first showed up in the courthouse.

Long story short: two of the reptiles were killed by a rolling file cabinet, while others got caught in a sticky trap and were found by courthouse employees.

Joking aside, one can only suspect that seeing things crawling on the floor while one is at work is not in the least a pleasant experience, more so when one's workplace is a courthouse and not a zoo.

“When you’re in your workplace and something slides across the floor, it’s not exactly comforting,” Deputy Clerk Kelly Phillips reportedly told members of the press.
