As usual, the new god comes with an array of bug fixes and balance tweaks, and with a couple of new skins

Hi-Rez Studios is adding a brand new god to its free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena title Smite, in the form of Medusa, The Gorgon.

The fearsome Gorgon has been unleashed into the arena, enabling players to petrify their opponents or at least poison and slow them enough to add some utility for the team.

Medusa used to be a beautiful maiden, but now she is a bitter, vengeful creature resembling a serpent, with the ability to turn anyone who would return her gaze to stone, god or mortal alike.

You can learn a lot by checking out the introduction video below, discussing the lore behind the newest addition to the extensive roster of playable characters, and showcasing her abilities, revealing how to best use them on the battlefield.

She is armed with a bow, being an excellent long-range damage dealer, with an interesting array of abilities meant to enable her to quickly navigate the arena and keep ahead of the competition.

Skills to pay the bills

Medusa's passive, Sidewinder, enables her not to suffer any movement penalty while strafing to the sides, and to only receive half of the usual movement penalty when moving backward.

Viper Shot lets her shoot three vipers in rapid succession, poisoning the targets they hit and inflicting damage over time.

Acid Spray makes Medusa spit a ball of acid that deals damage in a cone, and Lacerate makes the Gorgon dash forward, grabbing and slashing the first enemy hit, and reducing healing effects on the target for a short duration.

Her ultimate ability, Petrify, makes her remove her mask and reveal her true face, dealing damage to nearby enemies and stunning them for a short duration. Enemies who are looking away from Medusa only take half of the damage and are slowed instead of being petrified.

Another cool thing Hi-Rez Studios added is the fact that enemies killed by her Petrify ability will remain on the battlefield as statues, a grisly reminder of her lethal prowess.

In addition to this, as always, the team added a bunch of new skins, enabling players to get their swag on, as well as numerous balance updates to items and gods.
