Smite developer Hi-Rez Studios confirms that it's working on a solution alongside Microsoft to allow existing Smite players on the PC to transfer their progression and purchases on the Xbox One platform once that version of the popular online game is ready for launch later this year.

Smite rolled out onto the PC last year and delivered a fresh take on the popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre by letting players control characters from a third-person perspective, not from a top-down or isometric one, as seen in Dota 2 or League of Legends.

Now, after having formed a big community on the PC, developer Hi-Rez Studios is working on a Xbox One version, for which it's already accepting beta testers.

PC players can transfer their progress and purchases to the Xbox One

Now, in order to quell the fears of PC players that might want to jump to the Xbox One but are afraid of losing their progressed or bought skins, the studio's COO, Todd Harris confirms to IGN that the team is working with Microsoft for a solution to their situation.

According to Harris, there will be a one-time transfer option at least in the territories where Hi-Rez Studios directly handles the publishing for the online game.

"The answer [to your question about having to repurchase content] may vary by territory. Within North America and Europe -- the markets we self publish in -- we are going to work with Microsoft to have some path for previous playtime and purchases to carry over on a one-time basis. Players can opt in on that. More details are to be determined, but they will not be starting from scratch."

As such, fans on the PC who have already made some progress with the different gods that are playable in Smite can ease their worries. Those who have spent real-world money on gems and skins for their favorite characters will be able to get them once they come over to the Xbox One console.

Unfortunately, there's no word on when Smite might reach the Xbox One, as not even the beta has a concrete start date.
