Developer Hi-Rez Studios has just released a brand new playable god for its multiplayer online battle arena game Smite, this time one of Mayan descent: Ah Puch, Horrific God of Decay.

Smite offers an experience that's very different from Valve's Dota 2 or Riot Games' League of Legends, putting players in direct control of their characters, and playing more like a third-person action-adventure video game than a traditional MOBA.

The developer has also released a helpful video outlining the various abilities of Ah Puch, as well as showing him in action on the field of battle, and, perhaps most interestingly, offering us a glimpse of the beliefs of the ancient Mayans.

The latest update also adds a number of new god skins to the game, and you can find out more about all the fixes and tweaks on Hi-Rez Studios' website.

Ah Puch's skills

Ah Puch's passive is called Hollow Ground, enabling him to exhume dead bodies, to lower the cooldown of Undead Surge and restoring some mana and health every time the god walks over a decaying corpse.

His first ability, Undead Surge, raises up to two decaying corpses, dealing damage and slowing the targets hit.

Corpse Explosion, Ah Puch's second ability, causes the target area to explode, dealing damage and making any decaying corpses present in the area explode as well, inflicting potentially deadly wounds.

His third ability, Fleeting Breath, lets Ah Puch throw a charm from the underworld, awaking a decaying corpse that applies a miasma in an area, dealing damage every second, and stunning them. The damage and stun effect is amplified by any healing abilities the targets receive over the duration.

Finally, his ultimate ability, Empty the Crypts, makes Ah Puch unleash an army of wraiths from the Ninth Hell, swarming forward, dealing damage to any enemies they collide with, and applying a stacking slow debuff.
