Hi-Rez Studios's free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena game, Smite, just got a new update introducing another deity to the roster of playable gods, Osiris, along with a new league ranking system, some skins, and a boatload of bug fixes.

Osiris is the Egyptian god of the afterlife, wielding a flail and a sickle and having the power to transform into a spirit and walk through his enemies.

The introductory trailer presents Osiris' backstory, inspired by Egyptian mythology, as well as showing off his unique and powerful array of skills.

Osiris has a four-strike basic attack combo, with the last 2 hits dealing area of effect damage. After landing 8 hits, his passive allows him to assume spirit form and pass through allies and foes alike, as well as having his basic attacks not incur any movement penalties, for a short duration.

His first ability, Sickle Strike, is a skill shot that stops at the first enemy hit, dealing damage and slowing the target.

His second ability, Spirit Flail, is a ranged area of effect ability that blasts all enemies with the spiritual energy of Osiris' mighty flail. Enemies under the effect of Sickle Strike get an additional debuff, the slow being increased in both potency and duration, for some nice synergistic combo action.

Osiris's third ability, dubbed Judgement Tether, has him flinging out mummy wraps, tethering himself to all nearby enemies in a certain radius. Tethered enemies deal reduced damage, and at the end of the effect, if they are still within range, are stunned for a small amount of time.

His ultimate, Lord of the Afterlife, propels Osiris forward, activating his spirit form passive, dealing damage and targeting the lowest-health god, ripping a fragment of their soul and preventing all healing effects on the target.

The new league ranking system includes six different tiers, ranging from Bronze to Master, with an additional five divisions of players with similar skill within each tier, accommodating all levels of play.

The new Siege Mode consists of a new map, Jungles of the Mayan Gods, a two lane, five versus five players battlefield that features some new, towering weapons for players to destroy enemy objectives with, as well as player portals and a Silver Fury, who spawns a friendly Siege Tower when killed.
