Vodafone is one of the biggest carriers in the UK, and just like most network operators, it has its own brand. All the carrier-branded smartphones launched by Vodafone are made by other handset makers like ZTE, Huawei, others.

None of the smartphones launched by Vodafone under its own brand impressed through specs, but they were priced pretty low and had decent hardware configurations so they can better compete with other brands.

Today, Vodafone announced its most powerful Android smartphone to date, the Smart ultra 6, which is already available for purchase in the UK for just £125 (€175 / $200) on PAYG (pay as you go).

Judging by the specs sheet, this is a fairly decent smartphone that might become very popular among Vodafone customers looking for a cheap high-end device.

It offers enough bang for the buck

For example, the smartphone is equipped with a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5GHz.

But the first thing you notice when you lay your eyes on the Vodafone Smart ultra 6 is the large 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution. There' no mention of Corning Gorilla Glass coating, but at this price, it's not surprising.

Although it's dubbed “the most powerful” Vodafone-branded smartphone, the Smart ultra 6 packs only 2GB of RAM, instead of 3GB which is the standard for high-end devices these days.

Nevertheless, the amount of RAM is still more than decent considering the smartphone's low price. The device also packs 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

Vodafone Smart ultra 6 is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery and packs dual cameras (13-megapixel rear-facing camera and 5-megapixel secondary camera in the front).

It's also worth mentioning that the smartphone ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, but expect some Vodafone bloatware as well.
