The old bills will not be devalued, they can still be used

A new $100 (€74) bill will be unveiled tomorrow, October 8, amid controversy about the change not being able to be made in time for the reveal. They were originally supposed to be put in use in February 2011.

The new bills still include a portrait of Benjamin Franklin, but, unlike their predecessors, they also have some “smart,” almost impossible to replicate features.

One of said features is a 3-D ribbon that appears vertically on the front of the bill, Bank Rate describes.

"Beginning October 8, any financial institution that orders $100s from the Federal Reserve will receive the new design," explains Sonja Danburg, program manager for U.S. currency education at the Federal Reserve.

The old bills do not have to be turned in as they will not lose their value.
