It has a rugged aluminum chassis that doubles as a heatsink

Mini PCs are the smaller cousins of HTPCs (home-theater personal computers), but even they usually have one fan, no matter how small, which disperses whatever heat the hardware generates.

Not so for the LPC-480FS that Stealth computer has just formally launched. The mini PC has a rugged extruded aluminum chassis, but no fans.

Thus, while heat is dissipated through the metal, the lack of air flow prevents dust from gathering inside, or at least reduces the amount.

"The Stealth Model: LPC-480FS is a full featured Industrial PC utilizing the latest Intel mobile processor technology. Our fanless computers are loaded with features ideal for a wide range of applications," said Stealth CEO, Ed Boutilier.

Stealth made the new PC for mobile navigation, digital signs, thin-clients, POS & Human/Machine Interfaces, embedded control, kiosks, etc.

The CPU is based on "the latest Intel mobile processor technology" and is backed by up to 16 GB DDR3 RAM (random access memory).

The capacity is possible thanks to two SODIMM memory slots.

The SATA III interface (SATA 6.0 Gbps) is another important asset, as it allows for the use of a high-capacity, high-speed HDD or SSD. The standard option is a 128 GB SSD, quite fast and resistant to shocks and bustle thanks to the lack of moving parts.

Other hardware specs include a pair of USB 2.0 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, two PS/2 ports (keyboard/mouse), audio in/out, and Gigabit Ethernet.

As for software, buyers will have to select between Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows XP, though Windows Embedded and Linux are up for grabs too.

Stealth LittlePC LPC-480FS is up for sale at $1,359 / €1,056–1,359. More money will be needed depending on configuration changes. Both consumers and OEM customers are welcome to place one or more orders for it.
