Working on any of the movies that make up the blockbuster Bond franchise is a once in a lifetime opportunity, it has often been said, no matter if we’re talking about actors for major or minor parts, producers or directors. And this is one opportunity that “Slumdog Millionaire” director Danny Boyle is not willing to go by him, sources close to the team working now on setting up the 23rd Bond film are telling the British tabloid The Sun.

According to reports, Bond chief Barbara Broccoli from EON Productions is especially interested in getting Boyle on board of the project, especially in light of his very recent Oscar win with “Slumdog.” The director, in his turn, is equally interested in doing the film, in a context in which bringing star Daniel Craig as the deadly 007 agent has shifted the emphasis from action scenes and gadgets to character development, where Boyle is right up his alley, it has been said.

“Danny is the man of the moment and he is being bombarded with offers from studios. He has been offered the chance to direct the 23rd Bond film by Barbara. The EON team loves his vision and thinks that it would work perfectly for the new look of Bond. Danny has always insisted he is more interested in the film than the money.” unnamed sources allegedly from inside the Bond production team say for the aforementioned publication.

“However, with Daniel Craig’s involvement and the way the films are now structured – with the emphasis on the characters and plot rather than gags and gadgets – it is right up Danny’s street. Everyone on the EON team thinks Danny would be a fantastic addition to the Bond family.” the spies further add. While nothing in particular is mentioned as to the direction this might take, the publication already named hints that talks are currently underway with Boyle to get him on the Bond bandwagon. Chances are he’ll do it, it is further said.

Producer Callum McDougal, who also worked with Boyle on “The Beach,” and is now listed as a producer in the Bond franchise, is reportedly also pitching for him with EON Productions. To see whether this rumor checks out and Boyle does indeed helm the upcoming Bond film, keep an eye on this space.
