Sling Media, Inc. has just announced the availability of a new application for handsets running under Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 operating system, namely SlingPlayer Mobile.

The new mobile application was made available for purchase and download via the Windows Phone Marketplace at the same time as the first Windows Phone 7 handsets landed on the market in the US and Canada.

“The big story about SlingPlayer Mobile on Windows Phone 7 is the quality of the user experience,” said John M. Paul, executive vice president of Products at Sling Media.

“From the fully revamped user interface to the clear, sharp video images, customers are going to thoroughly enjoy watching TV on their Windows Phone 7 handsets.”

The manner in which this application works is a pretty simple one, the copmpany notes.

The SlingPlayer Mobile software offers users the possibility to watch home TV on a variety of handsets, provided that it is connected to a Slingbox SOLO or Slingbox PRO-HD via the Internet.

Slingbox owners who also bought a Windows Phone 7 device have now the possibility to change channels or control their DVRs straight from the handset.

Moreover, users are also offered the possibility to watch their favorite shows regardless their location, though they need a 3G or Wi-Fi internet connection.

SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Phone 7 was made available for purchase for $29.99 (US), or £22.99 (UK), €21.10 plus local VAT (Europe), and CN$31.99 (Canada).

The application is available via the Windows Phone Marketplace, and can be accessed e4ither from a Windows Phone 7 device, or via the Internet, here.

“SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Phone 7 can be purchased, downloaded and installed in minutes. Initially, the software will be available only in English, with other languages to follow soon,” the company announced.

We should note that this is only one of the applications already made available for Windows Phone 7. According to Microsoft, their number already surpassed the 2,000 mark.
