Shows up in pretty pixels

It appears that ASUS' high-end, stylish Eee PC S101 netbook has already surfaced in a number of detailed pictures, although the Taiwanese manufacturer is yet to officially introduce it on the market. The recent photos come just after the netbook's technical details were also leaked on the Internet, confirming the rumored Atom processor that will power ASUS' upcoming ultra-portable system.

The Chinese version of Engadget has uploaded the pictures and, as we can see, it would be completely justifiable to say that the Eee PC S101 is one of the best-looking Eee netbooks on the market. And it should be, especially since the company initially wanted the S101 to set the stage for a new type of ultra-portable computer systems, one that would provide users with the performance and portability features of a netbook, but in a better-looking and more stylish design. In fact, the S101 is so slim that one finds it almost impossible not to compare it with Apple's MacBook Air, at least in terms of design.

As far as tech specs go, you should be expecting yet another Atom-powered netbook to complete ASUS' Eee PC ranks. The S101 comes with 1GB of RAM memory and up to 64GB of flash-based storage. Additionally, users will also receive a good 20GB of free online storage. Other features include wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth and Ethernet LAN connectivity, three USB 2.0 ports, 4-in-1 memory card reader, VGA port, 0.3MP webcam, and either a Windows XP or a GNU Linux operating system, all in a system that weighs just 2.2 pounds.

After a good look at the specifications list, anyone could say that the Eee PC S101 has nothing to compete with Apple's MacBook Air. However, should we take in consideration the netbook's design and the fact that it is expected to sport a multi-touch trackpad, then maybe the S101 shapes up as a MacBook Air competitor after all.
