The recent holiday season has been extremely good for Nintendo, as the company, after posting some impressive hardware sales, has confirmed that three of its games sold over 1 million units in the last month.

Nintendo seemed to have a poor 2011, at least in the first half of the year, due to declining Wii sales and the poor performance of the 3DS, but it quickly managed to bounce back, thanks to some great games for the two platforms, as well as a price cut for the handheld ones.

Now, after a stunning Black Friday performance, which was quickly hyped up by the company itself, Nintendo has now showcased its sales figures after the end of the 2011 holiday season.

According to the company, three of its biggest games, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii, alongside Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS, sold over 1 million units each last month.

“One of the strongest software lineups in our history helped Nintendo have a great holiday season and to close 2011 with a full head of Steam,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.

“Not only have the new Mario and Zelda titles already broken records, but with strong reviews and satisfied customers sharing their positive experiences, all three are also shaping up to be the latest long-tail titles from Nintendo. Couple that with a massive first- and third party lineup in the first part of the year and the prospects for 2012 are extremely promising.”

The company also emphasized its hardware sales, with more than 4.5 million Wii units being sold, alongside 4 million 3DS units and 3.4 million DS devices.

After this strong holiday season, Nintendo is now getting ready to deploy the all-new Wii U home console in late 2012.
