As much as this might sound like a belated April Fools’ joke, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the Xbox 360 will get a special update in the near future, which brings support for the Kinect sensor.

Skyrim was Softpedia’s game of the year, impressing us with great gameplay, a complex story and a wide variety of things that you can do while in its world.

Now, after playing the game in a traditional way, Xbox 360 owners will be able to engage in a whole new experience, as Skyrim will get support for the Kinect sensor.

“Fully knowing that you can’t get enough of your favorite dragon shouts, we’re pleased to announce that Kinect for Xbox 360 support is coming to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Available for free as a title update slated for release this month, Skyrim Kinect for Xbox 360 Support will feature more than 200 Voice Commands… including the game’s dragon shouts,” developer Bethesda has just announced.

Besides the wide variety of shouts you can execute just by shouting in real life, plenty of other voice commands are included, for map navigation, quick save and quick load, and many more.

“In addition to Dragon Shouts, the Kinect for Xbox 360 integration offers voice commands throughout the game including Hotkey Equipping, Follower Commands, and all Menus (Items, Magic, Map, Barter, Container, Favorites, and Skills). With Voice Commands, quickly create and load saves during gameplay and access menus and inventories. Skyrim’s Kinect for Xbox 360 Support also adds new functionality including special map functions, additional hotkey options, and the ability to sort inventory items by name, weight, and value.”

Bethesda has even posted a special video in which one of its programmers, Ricardo Gonzalez, shows off the Kinect support in Skyrim.

This feature was originally thought up by Gonzalez during Bethesda’s now famous Skyrim Game Jam, in which different features were brainstormed by the studio’s employees, and has now become a reality.

More details about Kinect support in Skyrim are expected in the following weeks, so stay tuned to hear more about the now voice-controlled RPG.
