The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is set to be launched today and might just be the longest gaming experience launched this year, with one leading developer working on it saying that the game will basically offer infinite quests for all those who have the patience to play through all the content that the developers at Bethesda have created.

Todd Howard, who is the director of the Bethesda Game Studios, has spoken to Wired about how the quests and the events in the game are being built and said that, once a player manages to finish the scripted missions for groups like the Dark Brotherhood or the Thieves Guild, the engine will create random missions linked to them, like assassinating certain high profile individuals or stealing a number of artifacts.

Characters will also ask the player to go get bandits out of areas where they have not been before and might ask him to gather a number of objects that are rare in the world, all because of random pairing made by the game engine and not because the developers wrote a mission which includes these elements.

Howard said, “The vibe of the game is that it’s something that you can play forever.”

Bethesda had previously confirmed that Skyrim will generate dragons dynamically, allowing the player to continue to meet them throughout the world even if he makes of point of eliminating them all.

The plot of Skyrim relies heavily on dragons and on ancient omen of the return of a vengeful god and the mechanics of the game include a heavy emphasis on taking them down out of the sky and slaying them in order to develop the abilities of the player.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be playable on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC and the launch comes at the same time all over the world.
